Contrary to popular belief, government is not the ultimate protector of the environment. Government vs. Environment provides clear evidence of public policies that result in environmental destruction. This book goes to the heart of the matter by examining perverse incentives that lead to decisions harmful to the environment. It includes original case studies of policies dealing with flood plains and coastal areas, ocean fisheries, Florida’s Everglades, national parks and forests, pesticides, and economic development.
