Stephen Newbold

Stephen Newbold is a 2024 PERC Lone Mountain Fellow as well as an associate professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Wyoming. His research and teaching interests include environmental and natural resource economics, bio-economic modeling, and applied econometrics. Formerly, Stephen was an economist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with a focus on quantitative policy evaluation including benefit-cost analysis and human health and ecological risk assessment. Most of his current research falls into three main areas: non-market valuation of outdoor recreation activities using travel cost methods, combined epidemiological and economic modeling of people’s behavioral responses to infectious diseases and public health regulations, and integrated assessment modeling of climate change and the transition to renewable energy.
