Nathaniel Grimes

Graduate Fellow

Nathaniel Grimes is a PhD student in Environmental Science and Management at the Bren School at UC Santa Barbara. His research seeks to close the conservation funding gap in the ocean through the design of new financial tools and investments. Together, through these conservation financing options, Nathaniel hopes to find innovative ways to restore ocean health and increase the livelihoods of local ocean communities. His masters research on impact investment strategies to recover the Chilean Hake population ignited his interest in conservation finance. Prior to that, Nathaniel worked at the Bimini Biological Field Station ,aka “Sharklab”, wrangling both sharks and data while managing their finances as the Treasurer.
