The SEVEN Fund has announced the winners of its global essay contest on the Morality of Profit. Along with the three top prizes, four honorable mentions were awarded with one of them going to Paul Schwennesen an Enviropreneur-in-Residence at PERC and a former fellow at the Enviropreneur Institute.
Located in Cambridge, Mass., the SEVEN Fund (Social Equity Venture Fund) is a virtual non-profit entity run by entrepreneurs whose strategy is to markedly increase the rate of innovation and diffusion of Enterprise-based Solutions to Poverty. In addition to targeted investments it encourages new discourse, private sector innovation, prosperity and progressive human values.
This year’s essay contest focused on the questions raised about profits in the current global economic crisis. Some critics have identified greed, in other words profits, as the cause of the upheaval and as well as enduring poverty in many nations. One of the questions being asked include “Are markets moral?”
The winners were selected from more than 2,000 submissions. The top seven essays will be published in a book, Morality of Profit, due out in 2011.
Schwennesen lives with his family at the Double Check Ranch in Arizona where he raises grassfed cattle. Congratulations Paul!
