The Property and Environment Research Center (PERC) is the national leader in market solutions for conservation, with over 40 years of research and a network of respected scholars and practitioners. Through research, law and policy, and innovative field conservation programs, PERC explores how aligning incentives for environmental stewardship produces sustainable outcomes for land, water, and wildlife. Position Description

The Communications Manager is a new role that will develop and implement strategic and creative outputs that promote and share PERC’s work and mission with key audiences.

A successful candidate will help the communications and marketing team develop compelling campaigns and will directly execute daily and weekly communications across key PERC channels including social media, our website, email, and more. This position reports to the Vice President of Marketing & Communications.

Primary Responsibilities

Social media content and community management (40%)

Take PERC’s social channels to the next level and establish PERC as a “must-follow” within the conservation and policy communities

  • Create and curate compelling social content that breaks through the noise, amplifying PERC’s messaging and goals by creatively adapting them for various platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter/X
  • Engage with online communities to foster a strong, active network of fans and followers
  • Monitor social media trends and industry developments to ensure PERC remains current and innovative
Produce breakthrough digital content (30%)

Bring PERC’s research to life by producing compelling stories and assets

  • Plan and produce digital content including explainer videos, infographics, and other multimedia assets
  • Write engaging copy, scripts, and treatments by adapting original research or complex policy recommendations into cogent and compelling storytelling
  • Coordinate with creative partners and other PERC departments to create effective concepts
Analytics and measurement (15%)

Develop and maintain the communication team’s key performance dashboard

  • Utilize Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and other measurement tools to track and analyze the performance of key initiatives across digital platforms including our website, email, organic, and paid social content
  • Provide regular reports and insights to leadership, highlighting key metrics and recommending adjustments to improve effectiveness
Paid digital and social media (10%)

Target and reach new audiences to expand our impact

  • Develop and execute paid media campaigns to highly targeted audiences across digital platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Google, YouTube, and others to grow PERC’s network and support
  • Collaborate with external vendors and partners to optimize ROAS and ensure maximum impact
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on ongoing performance with the goal of optimizing future results
Audience segmentation (5%)

Own PERC’s audience lists to ensure we reach the right people with the right message

  • Implement effective segmentation strategies for mailing lists and digital targeting to tailor communications to specific demographics and interests
  • Utilize data-driven insights to refine and optimize audience targeting approaches
  • Build and maintain distribution lists by harnessing our database via Salesforce

Skills and Experience Required

The ideal candidate is sharp, creative, collaborative, and extremely detail-oriented.

  • Strong passion for conservation (specifically land, water, and wildlife)
  • Interest in policy and research
  • Innate storyteller with the ability to craft compelling narratives leveraging written and visual mediums (photo, video, digital, design)
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Agile, resourceful, and inventive
  • Avid social user
  • 3 to 5 years of experience managing social handles for a nonprofit, brand, or third party
  • Experience creating, supporting, and/or promoting exceptional digital content
  • Experience with paid digital media efforts
  • Working knowledge of Google Analytics (GA4) and other performance marketing tools
  • BA/BS in Communications, Marketing, or related field
  • Must have a valid drivers license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using social media management tools such as Sprout Social
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design, video editing, or photography
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, or Canva
  • Experience with Salesforce
  • Background in conservation, nonprofit, or ideas-driven organizations
Working Conditions
  • Business office environment with moderate noise
  • Travel by car and plane is possible
  • Will sit or stand at a desk
  • Work on a computer, use a telephone, and other general office equipment
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Location

This is a full-time, exempt position ideally based in Bozeman, Montana. We are open to remote positions for exceptional candidates.
