Jorge David Chapas

Jorge David Chapas Muralles is from Guatemala and he graduated as a agronomist focus on renewable natural resources. Currently works as the executive director of Red de Amigos de la Naturaleza (Rana), a think tank that promote the ideas of private property and free markets as a solution to environmental problems. Also is the manager of the company Forest Private Solutions from which offer advice and development in forest management. During twelve years (2000-2012), Jorge worked for national forest agency in Guatemala (Instituto Nacional de Bosques, INAB), for FAO-United Nations (Growing Forest Partnership, GFP Project), for development agencies (Finland) and other environmental NGO’s as International Conservation (CI), The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). After his long experience around the public policy solutions he observed free market, limited government and private property could be sufficient condition to solution the environmental problems. Jorge’s interests have focused on forests, specifically on forest management. He is senior fellow of Centro de Estudios Económico-Sociales (CEES), a think tank that ideas have built the Universidad Francisco Marroquín (UFM) and also a graduate from Enviropreneur Institutte 2013 from PERC (Property and Environment Research Center). On July 2013 he obtained a master degree in environmental economics in where he wrote a thesis around forests subsides and entrepreneurship. Jorge enjoy his family of three kids, being outdoors, hiking and playing football soccer.
