Shira Kronich

Shira Kronich is an environmental engineer responsible for monitoring and upgrading the small-scale decentralized rural arid environment wastewater systems at the Eilot Regional Authority in Hevel Eilot. She is the consultant environmental engineer with the sanitation department to ensure all systems comply with current regulations, since many kibbutz wastewater systems are over- utilized and ineffective. Shira monitors the organic and hydraulic loading on the systems and sludge accumulation. Furthermore, she manages the process and direction of the regional master plan for wastewater treatment systems in the council. This primarily focuses on evaluating the benefits and limitations of centralized versus decentralized systems. Shira has experience working at the Power and Water Company in the remote operations department (indigenous essential services) in the Northern Territory of Australia. She has also facilitated training workshops for local agriculturalist in Sauri, Kenya. As a water and wastewater engineer at the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies she is involved in the greywater treatment and reclamation project and the many other developments at the Centre for Transboundary Water Management. Shira earned her bachelor degree in engineering from the University of Melbourne, Australia.
